Marathon Gold Announces 2013 Q1 Financial Results

TORONTO, May 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation (MOZ-TSX) ("Marathon") announced today its unaudited financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2013.

At March 31, 2013, Marathon held $3.0 million in cash and working capital. Marathon's 10,000 meter winter drilling program at the Valentine Lake project was completed in late March and will be reflected in an updated mineral resource estimate at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit and an initial resource at Valentine East Hill, both of which are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013. The work program at Valentine Lake has been refocused to concentrate on a technical study of the structural geology of the property and prospecting and mapping programs.

About the Valentine Lake Project

Marathon Gold Corporation is the 100% owner of the Valentine Lake Project. The Leprechaun Gold Deposit is situated at the south-western end of the Valentine Lake Project, and the Valentine East Gold Zone is located 17 kilometers along strike running in a north-easterly direction. Frank Zone, which currently extends over an area in excess of 1.4 kilometers in length and 250 meters in width, is located up to 0.5 kilometers southwest along strike from the current Resource boundary of the Leprechaun Gold Deposit. The drilling successfully targeted both down-dip underground and near-surface hanging wall high-grade gold zones. The winter drilling campaign is now completed at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit.

All of the samples were analyzed at Eastern Analytical Laboratory Ltd., in Springdale, Newfoundland. Samples were assayed using lead collection fire assay with AA (atomic absorption) finish. Due to the coarse nature of the gold at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit, the metallic screening method is used on economically important intersections using standard fire assay techniques. The reported values in this release are fire assay results.

Marathon Intersects Multiple High-Grade Intervals while Underground Targeting at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit

TORONTO, May 1, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced multiple high-grade gold intersections from step-out drilling located 50 to 110 meters down dip on section of previous Marathon drilling in the Main Zone, Leprechaun Gold Deposit, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). This new drilling continues to define and expand high-grade ore shoots within the open pit and targets expanding the underground resource areas of the Main Zone, Leprechaun Gold Deposit.

Highlights include:

Main Zone high-grade gold intercept: 8.30 g/t Au (cut) over 6.65 meters (TT) with 35.00 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT) in VL-13-534.
Main Zone high-grade gold intercept: 9.20 g/t Au (cut) over 2.85 meters (TT) with 24.90 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT) in VL-13-533.
Main Zone high-grade gold intercept: 6.46 g/t Au (cut) over 3.80 meters (TT) with 25.48 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT) in VL-13-529.
Hanging Wall Zone high-grade gold intercepts: 20.39 g/t Au (cut) over 3.00 meters (TT) in VL-13-534 and 5.16 g/t Au over 4.00 meters (TT) with 11.93 g/t Au over 1.00 meters (TT) in VL-13-531.
Future drilling at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit will target expanding the high grade underground zones.
An updated open pit and underground resource is expected in 3^rd quarter of 2013 for the Leprechaun Gold Deposit.

Marathon Announces 2.72 g/t Au over 19.0 meters (TT) in Near-Surface Drilling at Valentine East Hill, 13 km northeast of the Leprechaun Deposit

TORONTO, April 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced continued success with latest near-surface drilling results at Valentine East Hill, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). The drilling focused on expanding the area of recently discovered wide intervals of high-grade gold mineralization (press release, April 4^th, 2013). The quartz-tourmaline-pyrite (QTP) and gold-bearing vein style mineralization at Valentine East is similar to that which characterizes the Leprechaun Gold deposit.

Highlights include:

New wide intervals of near-surface gold mineralization including 2.72 g/t Au over 19.0 meters (TT) with 21.93 g/t Au over 1.0 meters (TT) and 9.66 g/t Au over 1.0 meters (TT) in VE-13-025, and 2.01 g/t Au over 21.0 meters (TT) with 16.41 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) and 12.55 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) in VE-13-024.
Additional significant near-surface gold intercepts including 2.59 g/t Au over 3.8 meters (TT) with 7.51 g/t Au over 0.95 meter and 1.61 g/t Au over 6.65 meters (TT) with 7.82 g/t AU over 0.95 meters in VL-13-023.
The next phase of drilling at in the Valentine East Hill area will focus on exploring along strike and down-dip for additional wide intervals of near surface gold mineralization.
The Valentine East Hill alteration and QTP veining appears similar to that which characterizes the Main Zone of the Leprechaun Gold Deposit located 13 km along strike to the southwest.

Marathon Gold Corporation Announces Adoption of Advance Notice By-Law

TORONTO, April 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced that its board of directors (the "Board") has adopted a by-law which introduces an advance notice requirement in connection with shareholders intending to nominate directors in certain circumstances (the "By-Law").

In particular, the By-Law sets forth a procedure requiring advance notice to the Company by any shareholder who intends to nominate any person for election as director of the Company other than pursuant to (i) a requisition of a meeting made pursuant to the provisions of the Canada Business Corporations Act (the "CBCA"), or (ii) a shareholder proposal made pursuant to the provisions of the CBCA. Among other things, the By-Law sets a deadline by which such shareholders must notify the Company in writing of an intention to nominate directors prior to any meeting of shareholders at which directors are to be elected and set forth the information that the shareholder must include in the notice for it to be valid.

The Board believes that the By-Law provides a clear and transparent process for all shareholders to follow if they intend to nominate directors. In that regard, the By-Law provides a reasonable time frame for shareholders to notify the Company of their intention to nominate directors and require shareholders to disclose information concerning the proposed nominees that is mandated by applicable securities laws. The Board will be able to evaluate the proposed nominees' qualifications and suitability as directors and respond as appropriate in the best interests of the Company. The By-Law is also intended to facilitate an orderly and efficient meeting process.

In the case of an annual meeting of shareholders, notice to the Company must be made not less than 30 and not more than 65 days prior to the date of the annual meeting; provided, however, that in the event that the annual meeting is to be held on a date that is less than 50 days after the date on which the first public announcement of the date of the annual meeting was made, notice may be made not later than the close of business on the 10^th day following such public announcement.

In the case of a special meeting of shareholders (which is not also an annual meeting), notice to the Company must be made not later than the close of business on the 15^th day following the day on which the first public announcement of the date of the special meeting was made.

The By-Law is effective immediately and will be placed before shareholders for ratification at the upcoming annual meeting of shareholders of the Company (the "Meeting") on June 18, 2013. A copy of the By-Law has been filed under the Company's profile at www.sedar.com.

The By-Law is in effect until it is confirmed, confirmed as amended or rejected by shareholders at the Meeting and, if the By-Law is confirmed at the Meeting, it will continue in effect in the form in which they were so confirmed.

Marathon Hits 4.14 g/t Au over 11.0 meters (TT) in Near-Surface Drilling at Valentine East Hill, 13 km northeast of the Leprechaun Deposit

TORONTO, April 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (TSX: MOZ) today announced exciting results from our latest near-surface drilling at Valentine East Hill, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). The drilling focused over a 100 meter strike length area in the southwest end of the Valentine East Hill where previous 2013 drilling intersected narrow high-grade Au intervals. The quartz-tourmaline-pyrite (QTP) and gold-bearing veining at Valentine East is similar to that which characterizes the Leprechaun Gold deposit.

Highlights include:

High grade intervals included 4.14 g/t Au over 11.0 meters (TT) with 25.01 g/t Au over 1.0 meters (TT) and 11.71 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) with 24.49 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) in VE-13-019.
Wide intervals with high grade gold include 2.38 g/t Au over 25.0 meters (TT) with 17.24 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) and 11.62 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) as well as 1.47 g/t Au over 14.0 meters (TT) with 10.61 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) in VE-13-018 and 1.34 g/t Au over 9.0 meters with 5.85 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) in VE-13-020.
Additional significant near-surface gold intercepts include 4.33 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) with 11.04 g/t Au over 1.0 meter and 2.60 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-017, 2.20 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) in VE-13-019, and 2.12 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) in VE-13-015.
The Valentine East Hill alteration and QTP veining appears similar to that which characterizes the Main Zone of the Leprechaun Gold Deposit located 13 km along strike to the southwest.
The next phase of drilling in the Valentine East Hill area will focus on expanding the strike length and down-dip projection of this high-grade mineralization.

"These wide intervals of good grade gold at Valentine East are a significant advance in developing other open pit resources outside of the Leprechaun Deposit which contains all the resources discovered on the property to date. Marathon Gold Announces 2012 Annual Financial Results

TORONTO, March 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation (MOZ-TSX) ("Marathon") announced today its unaudited financial results for the year ended December 31, 2012.

Highlights:

The operational highlights of the year period include:

Becoming the 100% owner of the Valentine Lake gold project, following the acquisition in July 2012 of the net assets of Mountain Lake Resources Inc.
Completion of an updated mineral resource estimate at the Leprechaun Gold Deposit within the Valentine Lake property incorporating the results of 19,800 meters of drilling during the 2012 drilling program, the first resource for the project to estimate pit-constrained and underground mineral resources. The updated measured and indicated resource (in pit and underground) amounted to 682,000 ounces of gold at a grade of 2.22 g/t, with an additional inferred resource of 145,000 ounces of gold at a grade of 2.30 g/t.
Completion of an updated open-pit and underground mineral resource estimate for Golden Chest, incorporating the results of 7,900 meters of drilling completed in 2012. The updated measured and indicated resource (in pit and underground) amounted to 242,600 ounces of gold at a grade of 1.65 g/t, with an additional inferred resource of 183,500 ounces of gold at a grade of 1.84 g/t.

At December 31, 2012, Marathon held $5.2 million in cash and working capital.

Marathon's attributable measured and indicated gold resource amounts to 803,300 ounces at a grade of 2.11 g/t with an additional inferred attributable resource of 236,750 ounces at a grade of 2.09 g/t. This is a significant increase over 2011.

TORONTO, March 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced high-grade gold intersections from step-out drilling located 80 to 150 meters down dip of previous Marathon drilling in the Main Zone, Leprechaun Gold Deposit, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). This new drilling continues to define and expand high-grade shoots within the open pit and underground resource areas of the Main Zone, Leprechaun Gold Deposit.

Highlights include:

Main Zone high-grade gold intercept: 4.26 g/t Au over 32.40 meters (TT) with 12.89 g/t Au over 5.40 meters (TT), and 13.94 g/t Au over 2.70 meters (TT) in VL-13-526.

Main Zone high-grade cut gold intercept: 6.15 g/t Au over 2.70 meters (TT) with 14.71 g/t Au over 0.90 meters (TT) in VL-13-527.

Main Zone high-grade cut gold intercept: 4.27 g/t Au over 2.70 meters (TT) with 11.28 g/t Au over 0.90 meters (TT) in VL-13-525.

VL-13-525 is the deepest hole to the south west and expands the deposit along strike at depth.

Future drilling at the Leprechaun Deposit will focus on expanding the high grade underground zones.

TORONTO, March 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced new high-grade gold intersections from 50 to 120 meters down-dip of previous Marathon drilling in the Main Zone, Leprechaun Gold Deposit, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). The drilling continues to target the down-dip extension of high-grade ore shoots within the Main Zone as well as new extensional lenses in the hanging wall of the Leprechaun Gold Deposit.

Highlights include:

Main Zone high-grade gold intercept: 5.98 g/t Au over 10.45 meters (TT) with 27.72 g/t Au over 1.80 meters (TT), and 3.32 g/t Au over 5.40 meters (TT) in VL-13-522 (Photo 1).
Main Zone high-grade cut gold intercept: 23.70 g/t Au over 2.55 meters (TT) with 35.00 g/t Au (105.88 g/t Au uncut) over 0.85 meters (TT) in VL-13-523 (Photo 2).
Hanging wall intercepts of 2.39 g/t Au over 3.80 meters (TT) and 1.10 g/t Au over 4.75 meters (TT) in VL-13-522, and 1.10 g/t Au over 7.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-523.
Additional significant gold intercepts include 4.81 g/t Au over 2.85 meters (TT) with 14.00 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT), 2.62 g/t Au over 2.85 meters (TT) with 7.17 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT), and 4.09 g/t Au over 2.85 meters (TT) with 9.98 g/t Au over 0.95 meters (TT) in VL-13-521 (Photo 3).

Marathon Hits Positive Near-Surface Drilling Results at the Sprite Zone, Valentine Lake Property

TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Marathon Gold Corporation ("Marathon" or the "Company") (MOZ: TSX) today announced positive results from near-surface drilling 350 meters northeast of the Leprechaun Deposit, in the Sprite Zone, Valentine Lake Project, Newfoundland (Figure 1). The drilling focused along a 400 meter strike length of the Valentine Lake thrust fault where previous historical and 2011 Marathon drilling identified areas of gold mineralization within an extensive zone of quartz-tourmaline-pyrite veining.

Highlights include:

2.48 g/t Au over 8.0 meters (TT) with 8.99 g/t Au over 1.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-506 and 1.47 g/t Au over 10.0 meters (TT) with 5.40 g/t Au over 1.0 meter (TT) in VL-13-510.
Additional significant gold intercepts within 60 meters of surface include 1.04 g/t Au over 11.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-515, 1.36 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-512, and 1.05 g/t Au over 3.0 meters (TT) in VL-13-516.
Drilling focussed on intersecting new mineralization within 60 meters of surface and 25 to 30 meters up-dip from previous historical drill hole intercepts including 1.85 g/t Au over 20.0 meters with 16.86 g/t Au over 1.0 meter in VL-11-264, 19.17 g/t Au over 3.0 meters with 29.17 g/t Au over 1.50 meters and 2.54 g/t Au over 9.21 meters with 11.43 g/t Au over 1.50 meters in VL-27, and 3.18 g/t Au over 4.10 meters with 8.40 g/t Au over 1.0 meters in VL-35.
The gold-bearing QTP - Au alteration halo within the Sprite Zone is now defined over a strike length greater than 400 meters and up to 100 meters into the hanging wall along the Valentine Lake thrust fault. The Sprite mineralization zone is open along strike and down dip.
Future drilling will focus on systematic expansion of the mineralization at the Sprite Zone.
